Classic Lasagna

Published: November 17, 2021 · Courtney Rushing

Classic Lasagna

Y’all asked for it! My classic lasagna is simple and

Ingredients

5 lasagna noodles

1 tbs olive oil

1 large onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, mined

16 ounces ground turkey (I opt for 93/7)

24 ounces marinara sauce (Gia Russa is my preferred choice)

15 ounces ricotta cheese

8 ounces FRESH mozzarella cheese, shredded

Fresh grated parmesan to top

1 Tbs fresh parsley, chopped

1 Tbs fresh basil, chopped + more for garnish

Salt and pepper

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350F.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and add your lasagna noodles. Cook for about 5 minutes. You do NOT want to overcook these. Remove, drain and cut the noodles in half to fit the 8×8 pan.

In a large pan over medium heat, cook the onion and garlic in the olive oil until translucent and fragrant. You want to add a good pinch of salt to this to allow the onions to sweat.

Add the ground turkey and cook thoroughly.

Add in your fresh herbs and remove from heat (sometimes I add in red pepper flakes for a kick).

In an 8×8 dish, place about 3 tbs sauce on the bottom and spread.

Add 3 lasagna noodles, then spread 1/3 (about 5 ounces) of the ricotta cheese onto the noodles.

Add 1/3 of the turkey meat.

Add 1/3 of the sauce.

Add 1/3 of the cheese.

Repeat the layers 2 more times, 3 layers total.

Add parmesan cheese on top.

Place into the oven covered with foil for 40 minutes (dont let the foil touch the cheese).

Remove the foil and cook another 5 minutes.

Let cool slightly and top with remaining basil.

Enjoy!!
